Agran's Irvine Folly

OC Register Letters
August 20th, 2008

Agran's Irvine folly

I congratulate Larry Agran for the wonderful job he is doing putting the Great Park in the hole before it is even built. By now Orange County could have the best airport in the world. It would have brought more revenue and business to this great county than the Great Park ever will. The Great Park looked so good in the advertisement, but now there is a balloon ride that sometimes works and sometimes does not, mostly the latter.

I hope when bonds are put on the ballot for more money, people in Orange County will reject them. The city of Irvine should have to finance the entire park because the land was a gift from the United States Navy to it. Irvine, you get what you vote for.

Vernon Delights and Don D. Williams, please do us all a favor and get a life. The El Toro airport is a dead issue. Irvine didn't/doesn't want an international airport in their yard any more than you two NIMBY's want one in yours. While it MAY be true that an airport would have generated a lot of money, the airport would have destroyed the way of life not only for the citizens of Irvine but of several South Orange County cities.

We need a new, large regional airport, AWAY from populated areas and Irvine/El Toro is certainly not the place to put one.

So, Vern and Don, please, pick a new subject, this one's dead on arrival!

Anti-El Toro International Airport people have nothing to fear but fear itself. Support your local airport at El Toro. It's the only way the Great Park will fly.

THIS JUST IN:
El Toro Airport DOA, with no chance of a second life, but bitter anti-SNA NIMBY folks still clucking away on internet.

Anti-El Toro International Airport people are sore winners. Pollute this positive web site. Great Park is toast. Houses are white elephants. Airport is ready to go. Turn on the lights Vernon.

Vernon, are you not married? No grand Kids? Do you have nothing better to do than hope against all possible odds that the El Toro airport will fly? It won't! It was defeated twice at the polls and now Irvine has control of the land. It is absolutely over. Don't you get it? I'm sure you are a nice guy but this is a done deal.

It's time to build a Southern California Regional Airport AWAY from populated areas and El Toro isn't it.

Cmon Vern, lets hold hands and sing Kumbaya and hope for a new airport, but it will never happen at El Toro.

We can all agree that Larry Agran is a jerk, but that does not erase the fact that the airport is dead.

By the way, did you see the sunset tonight? Beautiful!

Yes, the land at El Toro is contaminated. The runways can not be removed. Children can not play there or live there. Woodbridge is on its last legs because it too is contaminated. The only use for that airport is for an airport. See newsoc.org and salem-news.com. Turn on the lights, Vernon.

More revisionist history from the delusional in NIMBY Beach. Irvine was not "given" anything. The base was auctioned off and SOLD to Lennar for cold, hard, cash. But facts have rarely mattered to NIMBY Beach in the El Toro debate.

Donald, why don't YOU turn on some lights and do a little reading to get your facts straight for once??

Now that Irvine has complete control of the planned El Toro International Airport in waiting, it can open it without support of its former allies. Irvine will make tons of money from the airport which can be used to clean up contamination in Woodbridge and Great Park. Turn on the lights Vernon. It's the only way to fly.

Anonymous said...

IF there is the contamination as claimed, where is the main stream media? Where's the protests? Why aren't babies being born with birth defects? Where's the outrage? Why is there not one single complaint to the City Council? If the ground water is contaminated, prove it, otherwise it's all your silly lip service.

And you keep saying Irvine can open the airport, but the Irvine leadership and residents have consistently said NO AIRPORT. What part of that don't you get? There is a better chance of cows giving beer than El Toro EVER being an airport.

At first I supported convereting the El Toro Air Station to an Airport as I hated those damn planes flying over my NIMBY Beach house; I know now an airport will never, ever, happen, but I still enjoy supporting it just to be annoying.

Irvine is closer to John Wayne Airport than to the planned El Toro International Airport, so converting Irvine to El Toro is a public relations dream. No one, absolutely no one, is in the noise zone of the planned El Toro International Airport. Contamination at El Toro freezes the airport in place and prevents houses and park construction. Navy still owns 800 acres pending cleanup in 250 years. Fed owns 1000 acres which it does not plan to sell. Reserved for FBI, FAA, and Dept. of Interior. Current Irvine leadership claims the 1000 acres is part of the Great Park. Health risks are huge at El Toro and Woodbridge. Generation skipping illnesses are happening. Marines are dieing.

Anonymous said...

OK, give me the name and proof of just one Marine that has died from this supposed mess. Again, where is the main stream media?

Anonymous said...

Read all about it on salem-news.com. Marines are dieing. Woodbridge is exposed to the water. Los Angeles Times is too busy laying off workers to cover this. Face up to the caliber of disaster indicated by the presence of a polluted city around you. Turn on the lights, Vernon.

Anonymous said...

Salem news is a joke! No Marines have died because of this, I checked. Face your own caliber of disaster or move, El Toro will never see another plane land or take off again.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Salem News is a joke. Marines are sick and dying. The toxic plume is getting larger under Woodbridge and is heading towards Newport Bay. Is that a joke too? Nobody is in the noise zone of the planned El Toro International Airport, so turn on the lights Vernon.

Anonymous said...

Salem News isn't even a news organization, it's one guy trying to be a reporter. Pretty silly.

Anonymous said...

Salem News is a newspaper that's not afraid to write about contaminaton at El Toro. Try it, you'll like it, unless you love pollution. Turn on the lights Vernon, at the planned El Toro International Airport. Those concerts where people sit on the ground are held at the site of the worst pollution at El Toro.

Anonymous said...

Salem News is not a newspaper. They have no address, it's one guy using different family names to "write" stories. It's a total joke.

Anonymous said...

Salem News is in Oregon, not Massachusetts, dummy. It's a newspaper that writes about pollution at El Toro and how marines are dying from past exposure to contamination. Turn on the lights, Vernon. It's the only way for the Great Park to fly.

Anonymous said...

Salem News in not a newspaper. It's a blog site being written by one guy! Do some homework, idiot!

Anonymous said...

I like Salem News. It has a large staff, and can be read right off of the internet. It is connected to Google. Are you against Google too? Marines are dying. Woodbridge is contaminated and may have to be torn down. Open the planned El Toro International Airport, Vernon.

Anonymous said...

IF Salem News is so great and large why is there no mailing address on their site? Why are they registered out of Arizona? Sounds like a pretty bogus "news organization" to me.

Anonymous said...

I like Salem News and I like Financial Times. They publish the truth about contamination at El Toro which stops the Great Park but opens El Toro International Airport. Turn on the lights, Vernon.

Anonymous said...

Of course you like Salem News, they print your bogus stories for you so you can flaunt them.

Anonymous said...

I love Salem News and Financial Times. They print the truth about El Toro. Marines are dying and Irvine is getting sick. Turn on the lights, Vernon.

Anonymous said...

Of course you like Salem News, they print your bogus stories for you so you can flaunt them. Name me one person in Irvine that has gotten sick.

Anonymous said...

Most of Irvine is mentally sick. They can't think clearly or vote rationally. Must be the TCE in the water........

Anonymous said...

Really, and just what is in the Kool Aid that you're drinkng?

Anonymous said...

931, Irvine must have TCE in their Kool Aid.

Anonymous said...

953 must have PCP in his Kool Aid, he keeps hallucinating. Something silly about an airport at El Toro, which everybody with half a brain knows will never happen.

Anonymous said...

The airport is there. It's TCE, not PCP, dummy. And Irvine is polluted with it. Turn on the lights, Vernon.

Anonymous said...

It's being cleaned up as we speak. Oh wait, you read some silly little wanna be news blog out of Seattle that says otherwise. Better read some real facts to see how that plume is shrinking.

Anonymous said...

Too bad Irvine is polluted by poisons. They may have to put an orange tape around it and evacuate the people. Turn on the lights at El Toro, Vernon. Larry wants to know how to solve his TCE problem.

Anonymous said...

More of your alarmist, conspiracy theories. Too bad for you the majority voted down you silly airport.

Anonymous said...

What is majority rule. If the majority decided to execute you, would you be in favor of that? Turn on the lights, Vernon.

Anonymous said...

North Orange County voted THREE times for El Toro! What about the rights of them to have a convenient airport with cheap flights, not to mention all the jobs that would be created.

Anonymous said...

845, when you sign up to be a sky cap maybe I'll vote for an airport at El Toro. Until then it's closed and will stay that way.

305, you have about as many brains as pond scum.

Anonymous said...

They're getting desperate, Vernon. Skycaps and pond scum; that's what desperation brings. Turn on the lights. Show those NIMBYs El Toro International Airport.
