Comparing an Apple to an Orange (County)

El Toro International Airport opponents are getting more desperate all the time to twist the truth in their favor. They are now citing the struggles of Ontario International Airport as "proof" that El Toro would have similar struggles. As usual the NIMBYs have not done their homework and are truly making an apple to an orange comparison with Ontario versus El Toro.

Here are the facts:
Ontario is in San Bernardino County.
Total population is around 2,000,000 people spread out over 20,000 plus square miles.
Total population density is about 85 people per square mile.

El Toro is in Orange County.
Total population is about 3,000,000 people crammed into about 800 square miles.
Total population density is about 3600 people per square mile.

Next, lets look at disposable income.
The only cities in San Bernardino County that have a median household income in excess of $75,000 are Rancho Cucamonga and Chino Hills.
On the other hand, there are 22 Orange County cities where median household income exceeds $75,000.

El Toro not only has a far greater population base in close proximity to draw passengers from than Ontario. It also has far more affluent residents nearby that can afford to fly more frequently. The same cannot be said about the Inland Empire area, which ranks FIFTH in the nation in foreclosures!

The class warfare activists who are jealous of Newport Beach are incessantly clamoring for more capacity out of John Wayne Airport. Remember folks, it is the Orange County Board of Supervisors who are responsible for John Wayne, and it is they who would be on the hook for any financial struggles. That means all of us Orange County taxpayers would be at risk.

On the other hand, were Los Angeles to operate El Toro International Airport it would be they, not Orange County that would assume the financial risks. Therefore, any concerns about El Toro being a financial boondoggle to OC taxpayers are purely disingenuous.

Finally, the Great Pork with an estimated price tag of 1.6 billion dollars along with Lennar circling the drain is the REAL financial boondoggle for El Toro. In fact, Great Porkers are so desperate for funding that they have resorted to begging Barbie Boxer for a bailout. Sorry, but congress is far more occupied with other bailouts these days.

I love it. Comparing an apple to an orange. Ontario Airport's current 30% decline can not be a lesson for Orange County's aviation demand. John Wayne Airport is bursting at the seams. The Wall Street Journal could write something useful about El Toro International Airport, instead of whining about overbuilt Ontario which simply does not have the demand. Even the few people out there who have the money to fly drive to LAX for greater choices. The Los Angeles Times and Wall Street Journal should write about the need for El Toro International Airport. We need 90,000 jobs and $1.5 Billion income. Turn on the lights, Vernon.

Vern, I must give you credit for some of the best spin doctoring I have ever heard. Trying to base an argument of the population densities of OC and San Bernardino counties simply ridiculous. So let’s once again temper your nonsense with some FACTS.

YTD comparisons of passenger traffic at local airports, through August:

LAX -3.78%
Long Beach -2.7% (through July)
Ontario -18.39%
JWA -11.5%

So while business is dismal in the IE, it’s not much better locally. I suspect that too many in self-proclaimed elite NIMBY Beach have maxed out their MasterCard’s and HELOC’s trying to impress their neighbors and can’t afford a vacation this year. But Vern, I may just accept your argument (although based on the traffic at The Duke it may be more theory) that the “OC has a far greater population base in close proximity to draw passengers from than Ontario. It also has far more affluent residents nearby that can afford to fly more frequently.” If that is the case, why don’t you, the Donald, and maybe a few thousand more of your NIMBY egomaniac chums pack your bags, run over the convenient, crowd-free John Wayne, and buy a ticket (preferably one way) to somewhere and help stimulate the local economy. And tell Donald that any airport down 12% is hardly “bursting at the seams.” In any event, you two must be tired from all the spin-doctoring, disputations and fantasies you two have to dream up every day.

John Wayne for today, tomorrow, and forever. et fact the deal the At any And while be and NYMAN help the same cannot be said about the Inland Empire area, which ranks FIFTH in the nation in foreclosures!

Spin doctoring is all the anti-El Toro International Airport gang ever had. John Wayne Airport is bursting at the seams. It says so on their website, and I believe them. That's why we need El Toro International Airport now. Every anti-El Toro International Airport argument has been refuted on this website. It must hurt to see your house of cards collapse. Turn on the lights, Vernon. I've got a plane to catch at El Toro, and I'll be back. Thank you Google for such a fine website.

JWA bursting at the seams? Here's your to finally submit a shred of the truth.

Please supply a link to the portion of the JWA web site that says they are "bursting at the seams."

And have a nice flight from El Toro. And as long as you're going there for a LOOOOONG time waiting for the plane, would you do us a favor and jump up and down, wave your arms and shout a lot? We need to scare off the crows.

Here's a new argument, new to me anyway, for opening El Toro International Airport. John Wayne Airport is bursting at the seams. Ref (www.ocair.com/Improvements/Overview/About the program.html), "... Quite simply, the Airport is bursting at the seams." Turn on the lights, Vernon. I need to catch a redeye at El Toro International Airport.

For the first time ever, an accurate although slightly out of context staement from the pro-El Toro zealots. I'll circle this date on my calendar.

That said, rest assured that the expanded terminal with several new gates will return convenient JWA to its crowd-free status very soon. Now just as soon as we can rid our only commercial airport of those silly, unneeded passenger caps all the OC will enjoy lower fares and more travel destinations available from The Duke.

Turn on the lights, Vern, the new gates are opening.

Yes, NIMBYs, this is the place to come to get the facts about El Toro International Airport. Turn on the lights, Vernon. John Wayne Airport is bursting at the seams.

Anonymous said...

John Wayne traffic may be "down". However, JWA only has 500 acres, a 5700 foot runway and a 2900 foot runway. It has over 900 daily operations! This would make it one of the busiest aviation facilities around even with a decrease in activity.

For those who cheerlead more jets being shoehorned into John Wayne, please tell us WHERE all that displaced general aviation planes should go. If some CEO's lose their private space, they could end up taking their firm out of Orange County.

El Toro could accommodate both public and private aviation needs for Orange County. With 4700 acres and 39,000 feet worth of runways, this is a very valuable aviation asset for our benefit.

There were 331,452 total takeoffs and landings at John Wayne Airport in 2007. There were 123 military takeoffs and landings. There were 9,979,699 passengers at John Wayne Airport in 2007. Oddly, more passengers arrived than left. But in the previous year more passengers left than arrived. So much for John Wayne Airport statistics. Now lets get back to El Toro International Airport. Turn on the lights, Vernon. There's big money to be made there, 90,000 jobs and $1.5 billion annual income.

Anonymous said...

1008, what the hell did your last paragraph mean???? It looks like your sleeping pills kicked in as you typed .

Anonymous said...

General aviation is down 14.5 YTD 2008 vs. 2007. Seems there's plenty of room and airspace available for those corporate jets.

Turn on the lights in the new terminal at JWA Vern, The Duke is here to stay.

Anonymous said...

Stop quoting month by month statistics at John Wayne Airport. This says nothing about our need for El Toro International Airport. It's like saying the stock market was up last week by pointing out each up-tick you can find. John Wayne Airport is too small. It's bursting at the seams. What part of that don't you understand? El Toro is big enough to handle our needs. Turn on the lights at El Toro, Vernon. Let's see if they say we don't need JWA anymore.

Those nasty old facts always get you in a lather, don't they Donald?

Anonymous said...

Irrelevant facts are irrelevant, Len. Some people will be reeducated. Others will be dragged kicking and screaming to the grand opening. Turn on the lights, Vernon. I'm ready to fly at El Toro International Airport.

Anonymous said...

Then I guess you're growing wings Donald, because that's the only way you're ever going to fly out of El Toro.

Anonymous said...

Don't be too sure of yourself, 833. El Toro International Airport can be opened despite your objections. Truth really disturbs your dogma, doesn't it? Turn on the lights, Vernon. I need to catch a redeye.

Anonymous said...

Donald, I'll hear much more truth from Casey Anthony than I ever have or will hear from the NIMBY Beach El Toro gang.

The truth killed your airport wet dream. That REALLY hurt, didn't it?

Anonymous said...

The Great Pork has failed very badly and the nasty NIMBYs can only post hate, lies, and envy. Turn on the lights Donald and Vernon!

Donald:

Hate: Lots
Lies: Zero
Envy: Less than Zero

Be happy your ancestors had money, you're an idiot.

I am in complete agreement with using the Great Park as an international airport, and I think it should be done right away. It is a natural airport site with long low straight-in approaches, a calm field and fuel-saving cross runways pointing to where airplanes need to go. No one is in the noise zone at El Toro thanks to 60 years of protection for the Marines. There is a federal role in land use, a national airport plan and conversion of military airfields to civilian use. Don't spend another penny on the Great Park house, stripmall, and open space concepts. All we have to do, Vernon, is turn on the lights at El Toro International Airport.

Anonymous said...

Now that's a post that makes sense, Vernon. No hate, envy or lies.

Anonymous said...

No, actually it's nothing but lies.

Anonymous said...

El Toro International Airport is the answer to all our problems. No lies on this website.

Anonymous said...

352, what disturbs my dogma is your bad carma.

Anonymous said...

1213, let me see now. Are you an apple or an orange? I guess it's safe to say you're a fruit. Turn on the lights at El Toro, Vernon. Truth disturbs his dogma and carma.

Anonymous said...

I may be a fruit but you seem to be the one enjoying the reach arounds.

Anonymous said...

No fruits here, 1001. But is Chris Cox an airport apple or a pollution park orange? Find out on eltoronow.com.

Anonymous said...

Who cares? Chris Cox is a Newport clown that will soon be unemployed. Do you think he cares? Hell no, one of his Newport NIMBY cronies will give him a job in the private sector where he'll be making more money than he does now. And as for eltoronow.com, who cares? Old news is old news and nobody cares about it.

Anonymous said...

807, who cares if there is a perfect airport in Irvine that may soon have lots of jumbo jets? El Toro airport is an old story, but its use as a big 24/7 turnkey airport is new. Chris Cox will blush to see this happening. We care.

Anonymous said...

1040, El Toro is anything but a "turnkey airport" as you would like everyone to believe. You make it sound like old Vern can just flip a switch and planes will start landing there. The truth hurts and the truth is that at this point it would take years to get El Toro up and running, not to mention approved as the previous approval expired long ago.

You keep smoking dope with Vern, though, then click your heels together three times and maybe the Wizard will show you a good time.

Anonymous said...

Even confirmed anti-El Toro International Airport NIMBYs admit it was approved. True then. True now. True tomorrow. All we have to do is turn on the lights. It is a turnkey airport that can be up and running in 6 months. President Roosevelt flipped a switch in Washington to dedicate Newport Harbor. Vernon Delights can do it for El Toro.

Anonymous said...

640, I'll bet your eyes are brown.

Anonymous said...

Vernon Delights can flip the switch to open El Toro International Airport, just as President Roosevelt did to open Newport Harbor. What color are your eyes, 923?

Anonymous said...

Blue, like the ocean. Not brown like the bullshit spewed here supporting an airport that will never fly.

Anonymous said...

This site features all the facts about El Toro International Airport, not the color of poster's eyes.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the facts that you make up in your head. There seems to be a big difference between your "facts" and reality, but that has never stopped the Newport NIMBY's before, has it?

Anonymous said...

1047,

One more time:
The airport is there with 10,000 foot cross runways pointing to where airplanes need to go. All we have to do is turn on the lights.

Oops did I make you throw up? So sorry my little NIMBY friend.

It must suck for you to be suffering from years of Irvine Socialist propaganda permanently embedded in your most inner thoughts. The only thing to fear about El Toro is fear itself.

Anonymous said...

Yes, all the NIMBYs have to fear is fear itself. One more time. The airport is there with 10,000 foot cross runways pointing to where airplanes need to go. Nobody, absolutely nobody, is in the noise zone. Makes me want to celebrate, realizing that Jean O. Pasco was all wrong when she said El Toro was not a partisan issue, as she carefully interviewed people along the landing path all the way to Monarch Beach. Fortunately, she's gone from the Times now, but I think I spotted a couple of her postings on this website. Sam Zell, new owner of the Times, has fired the Associated Press too, and that is good. Turn on the lights, Vernon. Re-education is working.
